A new error criterion for block based motion estimation

چکیده
In this paper, a new error criterion for block based motion estimation in a hybrid video coder is proposed. Traditionally, the mean squared error between the current and the previous frames has been considered as an appropriate criterion for selecting the displacement vectors in hybrid video coders. In this work, it is shown that when the spatial domain coder is based on a DCT and dynamic bit allocation, improved performance can be achieved by using the geometric mean of the DCT coeecient variances as error criterion. The proposed coder ooers a signiicant gain in terms of PSNR, typically in the range of 0:2?1:0 dB, without much increase in the computational complexity.

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis
In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...
متن کاملQUAD−TREE MOTION ESTIMATION IN THE FREQUENCY DOMAIN (FriAmOR4)
We propose a quad−tree scheme for obtaining sub−pixel estimates of interframe motion in the frequency domain. Our scheme is based on phase correlation and uses motion compensated prediction error to control the partition of a parent block to four children quadrants. This criterion guarantees a monotonic decrease of the motion compensated prediction error with an increasing number of iterations ...
متن کاملAdaptive search area for fast motion estimation
In this paper a new method for determining the search area for motion estimation algorithm based on block matching is suggested. In the proposed method the search area is adaptively found for each block of a frame. This search area is similar to that of the full search (FS) algorithm but smaller for most blocks of a frame. Therefore, the proposed algorithm is analogous to FS in terms of reg...
متن کاملA New Statistically Adaptive Block-Matching Criterion for Motion Estimation
In this paper, we address the issue of motion estimation in real video sequences. While the conventional block-matching criteria for motion estimation is based on the assumption that the average values of the target block and reference blocks are identical. This causes performance degradation for motion estimation because average values are time-varying in real video sequences. In order to alle...
متن کاملNew adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation
Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...
